Our Countertop Fabrication and Installation Process

Now, to make your countertop consultation as successful as possible, it is very important for you to have the next information.

Consultation

Be sure to get the most precise measurements of your kitchen or bathroom! To measure your kitchen effectively, start by measuring along the back of the countertops, where the backsplash and countertop meet. Taking the longest measurements possible will guarantee that the Nuova Stone sales team provides you with the most accurate square footage price.
Capture some photographs! Bring them in or send them. Providing visual imagery is invaluable for your sales team, as it enables them to visualize the area and comprehend various perspectives, placements, and more. Additionally, it aids in showcasing the amount of natural light your space receives.
To assist you and your sales associate in selecting the perfect countertops for your space, we highly recommend providing pictures of any samples you have on hand. Whether it’s a cabinet door, tile sample, flooring piece, or paint swatch, these visuals are incredibly valuable in helping Nuova Stone staff understand the aesthetic of your space.
Consider having a general budget in mind that you are comfortable sharing with our sales team. This is particularly helpful when working on smaller projects like bathroom vanities, as it allows our staff to find the ideal piece for your space. Budgets play a crucial role in helping us discover the perfect look within your desired price range while also preventing any surprises when you receive a quote.
Consider the options for space materials. Our selection includes marble, granite, quartzite, and quartz. Each stone has its own strengths for specific projects. For instance, we suggest using granite, quartzite, or quartz for a busy kitchen, as marble is a delicate and absorbent stone that is prone to scratches and stains. The sales team at Nuova Stone is delighted to offer advice and assistance in determining the ideal stone for your project.
Consider the time frame carefully! Once you make a deposit, Nuova Stone typically takes around 7 to 15 business days to complete the project. While planning this duration, remember to take into account other aspects of the project. Have the cabinets been delivered and installed? Is the flooring completed? It’s crucial to keep in mind not only the time frame for the countertops but also for the entire renovation or new construction.

Fabrication

Our skilled craftsman team performs 70% of the fabrication process by hand, while the remaining 30% is completed using advanced technology equipment.

Cutting: Once the Nuova Stone Specialists have completed the final measurements or templates, the stone slabs are then cut into pieces by the saw operator using a large bridge saw. The cutting process can be done manually or computerized, with a 16” diamond blade and ample water to ensure a smooth cut.
Fabrication: Once Saw has finished cutting the stone slab, the pieces are transported to the fabricators’ area, where they undergo final cutting processes such as sink hole cut-outs, grinding, and shaping of edge profiles. These processes are done either by hand or through the use of a manually operated router on the naturally rough surface of the stone, resulting in the desired finish as specified by the customer.
Polishing: Once the fabrication and shaping process is complete, the pieces are transported to the polishing area. Our proficient polisher manually polishes the edges of each piece using an air polisher. Various stones, such as marble, granite, quartz, etc., can be hand-polished to achieve a mirror-like finish on any profile using rotating pads coated with abrasive substances ranging from coarse, medium, and fine grids. Before delivery and installation, each piece undergoes a thorough inspection.

Installation

Prior to the arrival of your fresh stone countertops, there are a couple of tasks that require your attention. Initially, you must eliminate any current countertops (or we can handle it for you with an extra charge). Secondly, it is essential to prepare the remaining area for the installation team, ensuring that everything is cleared out of their path.
Prepare the Space: Prior to the installation of your stone countertops, it is recommended to protect your furniture and other areas of your home from dust. Despite the crew’s efforts to keep the mess to a minimum, some dust may be unavoidable during the final adjustments or cutting out of areas for your new countertops. Additionally, ensure that there is a clear path from the entrance to the installation area. If there are other ongoing projects in the room, coordinate with the contractors to ensure that the installers have uninterrupted access to the installation area.
During Stone Countertop Installation: To ensure a safe and efficient stone countertop installation, it’s crucial to keep the area clear for the professional installers. Heavy and unsecured stones can pose a risk of injury, so it’s best for non-professionals to maintain a safe distance. The installation crew will carefully place each piece of granite onto the counters and seal them together with clear or neutral epoxy. If you plan to add a coordinating stone backsplash, it will be installed at this time to cover any imperfections where the countertops meet the wall. Any necessary cut-outs for sinks or cooktops will be finished on site to prevent any weakness. Once the installation is complete, the countertops will be checked for any leftover caulk or dust and then cleaned and sealed for your enjoyment.
How long does granite countertop installation take? The duration of each project is unique and depends on various factors, such as the size and intricacy of the kitchen design, accessibility, and other variables. For instance, smaller kitchen projects may only require 3 to 6 hours, while larger ones with multiple slabs could take up to 8–16 hours (2 days) to finish. Once we have a clear understanding of your project’s work process, we can provide you with a more precise estimate for your countertop installation.
