01.

Granite

Granite is created deep underground through the solidification of magma. Under the mantle layer, there is a molten rock layer formed by the breakdown and decay of naturally occurring radioactive elements within the Earth. This decay releases a significant amount of heat, causing the surrounding rocks to melt. Geological events, like plate movements or pressure buildup, push the molten rocks towards the surface. As the rocks approach the surface, they cool down and form internal igneous rocks, including granite. Granite is typically composed of quartz and feldspar, with the possibility of containing mica as well.

02.

Marble

Marble is a type of metamorphic rock that has undergone a transformation. This transformation occurs when sedimentary rocks like limestone or dolomite are subjected to high levels of heat and pressure. The minerals within the rock then undergo a process of recrystallization and rearrangement, resulting in the formation of interlocking calcite crystals. These crystals are primarily composed of calcium carbonate, which is commonly found within the marble matrix.

03.

Quartz

The process begins by selecting the manufactured quartz materials, which can include quartz sand or quartz granules. Once the raw quartz is chosen, it is crushed and blended with a ratio of 90% quartz aggregates to 10% resin binder, along with other additives and sometimes crushed natural stone.

04.

Quarzite

The sand grains and silica cement are recrystallized under heat, pressure, and chemical activity. The resulting rock is incredibly strong and durable, with interlocking quartz grains that increase its commercial value. During metamorphism, the sedimentary structure and original texture of the rocks are erased, resulting in quartz grains that are almost the same size and have a more multi-sided texture. The grains are so firmly held together that when the rock is broken, it forms a conchoidal fracture through the grains.

05.

Onyx

kitchen countertops.

While granite, quartzite, and marble are all created deep within the earth’s crust, onyx is unique as it is formed on the surface. Onyx is the result of spring water or groundwater that contains a high concentration of dissolved calcite. The most common color of onyx is a warm honey shade, which is attributed to the presence of iron oxide. Slabs of onyx are obtained by slicing through these layers, unveiling thousands of years’ worth of deposits.

06.

Soap

Black kitchen countertops.

Soapstone is created through the metamorphism of magnesium-rich rocks, particularly ultramafic rocks like peridotite and pyroxenite. Over time, changes in temperature, pressure, and mineral composition occur, resulting in the formation of soapstone.
